Visit to the Annual Braidwood "Airing of the Quilts"

23 November 2002

The Big Merino is still a compulsory stop in Goulburn on the way to Canberra where we were staying with old friends on the nights of 19 & 20 November.

Ralph and his walking mates made Tommy welcome on their weekly walk in the woods.
Our hosts in Canberra Ralph and Joan Veenstra ex neighbours from our time in Duet Drive on the Gold Coast.

We arrive in Braidwood on the 21 November the day before the quilt show when the main street is unadorned

We stayed at the Colonial Motel on the boundary of this historic town.
Len Mutton's original country town department store before and after the hanging of the quilts from their balcony.
The biggest balcony in town has a grand display overlooking the old market site which these days is a friendly park.
The fire station does its bit.
No blank wall escapes!
In addition to the outside balconies of all the buildings in the main street the old Theatre building is home to a splendid display of quilts.

On the eve of the Show we could not obtain accommodation in Braidwood and we stayed an hours drive away on the coast at Bateman's Bay. This sunrise on the 23 November was a good omen for the fine weather that graced the day, much to the relief of the Braidwood Quilters.
